Introduction to R for Absolute Beginners @ Lab#1, 2024 E Monument St Building, Medical Campus

R is an open source software for statistical computing and graphics. This in-person “Introduction to R” workshop is for people who want to learn this data analysis tool but have little or no experience in any programming languages. The first half of this 3-hour workshop will focus on some basic concepts of coding and the second half will have several hands-on activities to learn basic R skills, such as installing R packages, importing and exploring data. Some troubleshooting tips and R resources will be provided at the end of this workshop. <Register here>

Data visualization in R @ Lab#1, 2024 E Monument St Building, Medical Campus

Prerequisite: Introduction to R for Absolute Beginners or some experience using R. This workshop is designed for beginner level R users who want to learn R’s data visualization capability. We will provide an overview of some popular data visualization packages and then go into more detail for some of them including: Base R plotting, lattice, and ggplot2. You will have plenty of opportunities to do hands-on activities on your laptop and work on datasets provided by the instructors. Using these R packages, we will show you how to make some simple graphs, such as scatterplots, histograms, line charts, boxplots, etc.  After this workshop you will have the foundation to use these tools to create graphs for your own research data. <Register here>

Prerequisite: Introduction to R for Absolute Beginners or some experience using R. Do you work with other people’s data? Are there times when you need to clean or reorganize these data to work for you? This workshop will provide tools to efficiently clean and wrangle data in R. You will need to have either some basic knowledge about using R or have previously attended our Introduction to R for Absolute Beginners workshop in order to take this one. We will give an overview of popular R packages for data cleaning and wrangling and go into greater detail with a couple of them. R packages used in this workshop include: dplyr, tidyr, reshape2, and lubridate. You will have plenty of opportunities to do hands-on activities on your laptop and work on datasets provided by instructors.<Register here>
